By turns serious, tough, quizzical and amusing - a composer whose rigorous methods didn't eschew humour. His reputation will only grow with time.

Dame Margaret Price, the Welsh soprano (who started as a mezzo) has also left us. Her Mahler 4 with Horenstein was magical, and her Isolde unsurpassable in my view.
