All you need to get now is the proper spelling and your fellow conspirators here at PP will declare you a bona fide English lady.

According to 'The A-Z of Correct English' by Angela Burt, only 19 basic words of
more than one syllable must end with -ise:
advertise, advise, apprise, arise, chastise, circumcise, comprise, compromise,
despise, devise, disguise, enfranchise, excise, exercise, improvise, revise,
supervise, surprise, and televise.
Only one word of more than one syllable must end with -ize: capsize.
All the rest of more than one syllable can be spelt either way. The choice is yours.

'Otherwise' is derived from the Old English phrase 'odre wisan', meaning 'in another way'.
So maybe Angela Burt regarded it as a derivative of the word 'wise', and therefore not
included in her list of 19 basic -ise words of more than one syllable, or maybe she just
overlooked it. This is a good link for the origins of English words:-

Meanwhile, getting back to the proper area of discussion for this thread, the American
composer Benjamin Lees died on Monday, aged 86.

The very great Robert Alexander Schumann is 200 today!
Tuvalu in the South Pacific has remembered him with a commemorative coin.

At last - two of my hobbies combined - numismatism and musicmatism!
Strangely, the P for the Perth mint is echoed in America's state quarters
by the P for the Philadelphia mint, the other being D for the Denver mint.

Fred celebrated by having a fresh seafood lunch on a very remote island in the Philippines, as one would expect on such occasions.

Whoops, you are, as usual, quite correct. Too much lambanog.
