Howard Brockway (1870 -1951). American composer and pianist. He studied in Berlin (1890-95), where his music made a great impression. On returning to the USA he taught at the Peabody Institute and in New York, notably at the National Institute of Musical Art (1910-40). His music, composed mostly before 1911 and covering orchestral, chamber, choral and piano works, is noted for its melodic and harmonic warmth e.g. the Violin Sonata (1894) and the Cello Suite (1908). He also made popular arrangements of Kentucky folksongs.
I have posted his very engaging Op 10 Ballade.

Hi Malc, Thank you for this beautiful ballade by Howard Brockway! His name is very well known amongst collectors of piano rolls, as he was a prolific recording artist for the American Piano Co. (Ampico) during the mid to late teens and into the early 1920s. I was aware that he composed, but this is the very first score of his which I have seen. I should think that his works are extremely scarce.
As another example of Brockway's compositional style I am posting a midi file of his Serenade, Op. 28, originally issued as Welte roll No. 6961 and played by Fannie Bloomfield-Zeisler.

ARTHUR FARWELL
Could someone please post the score piano Sonata of Farwell? This was, I believe, his final work and some say his masterpiece. Also, of interest, I would welcome his Polytonal Studies and the curious work "What's in an Octave?" These works and any others would be a welcome addition to a wider appreciation of this neglected composer. Thank you.

Dear Klavierelch,
I will gladly scan the other pieces. It may take a little time to find them.
As I have indicated before. I have a very large collection of piano music in a house that is too small for all of it, and this gives me major problems in finding scores.
Best wishes.

Lee Sims (1898-1966). American pianist, composer, record producer, publisher and performer. Full detailed biography available through Wikipedia.
I have posted his Blythwood Symphonic Tone Poem - this was originally written for piano, but later orchestrated by Grofe and conducted by the composer with the London Symphony Orchestra.
