Re: Music from the Balkans
Hey everyone, can someone please help me find some information on this piece. The album says it was composed by Nikos Skalkottas but I could not find any piece by him named as the title in the video. Apparently the suite consists of 3 pieces. Here's the recording of the first piece. I'll also link the album. Thanks in advance.

Re: Music from the Balkans
Hello Dhruva,
this is an uncomplete three-movement work by Skalkottas from 1924 (one of the Berlin years of the composer) which exists only in manuscript with the first two pages missing. Thus we don't know the original title and the title and first bars of the first movement.
In the recording it is marked as Suite with the movements Fragment, Molto moderato, Shimmy Tempo. But since we don't know the title it could also be something like Three pieces or whatsoever.
Best regards
Henning

Unfortunately I don't know since the CD booklet doesn't give a hint to the whereabouts of the manuscript.
But you could try to contact the pianist Loredana Ramou directly and ask her. The only contact data I could find is LinkedIn:

Re: Music from the Balkans
According to Wikipedia, "The Nikos Skalkóttas Archives, based in Athens, have 110 manuscripts by the composer out of the 170 composed works listed in the catalog. Which still represents 6500 pages of music and an eighth of the total "dhruvapunde wrote: ↑Thu Mar 18, 2021 8:06 am Thank you so much! Do you know where I could find the manuscript?
http://www.musipedia.gr/ is given as a further reference, which redirects to http://www.iema.gr/home/?lang=en , from whence I found the Skalkottas-Feinberg society: http://www.skfe.com/aifs/aifs/index_aifs.html It's unfortunately about 10yrs out of date, but may provide further leads

Does anyone have Josip Slavenski's Tänze und Lieder aus dem Balkan? Couldn't find it anywhere.

I think they're better known under their Croat name: Igre in pesme sa Balkana
Here's a list of editions: taken from this 2003 thesis on his piano music: A few libraries have them: https://www.worldcat.org/title/tanze-un ... c/60757459
I'd also try the Croatian music centre ( mailto:mic@mic.hr ), who were very helpful last week when seeking Pejacevic scores.
