Re: World Premiere CD Recordings
A welcome recent addition to the Hyperion label is a CD of some
of Stanford's finest occasional works for orchestra. The final piece
on the disc is A Song of Agincourt Op.168.
Maybe the disc won't sell too well in France!

Re: World Premiere CD Recordings
Somm Recordings, a small independent label, has produced
numerous world premiere recordings in recent years, especially
of English music. Personally, I'm a big fan of Somm, not just for
their repertoire but also the high quality of recordings and their
beautifully presented CD covers and attached booklets containing
background information about the music. One example of all this
is a CD called 'Bantock Rediscovered'. World premiere recordings
of several of his piano works are included, played by Maria Marchant.
Trying to find the scores of these works is challenging, to say the least!

Re: World Premiere CD Recordings
Having done some research now into recordings of Bantock's music,
it seems that, with exception of his least unknown works such as the
Hebridean Symphony, almost everything recorded has been a world
premiere. The more I listen to his output, the more I wonder how
and why has he been completely off my radar for the last 50 years!
On a more general point regarding file-handling, I learned today that
merging mp3 files into one mp3 or wav file needs care. On several
occasions, just copying and pasting a group of mp3s all at once to
merge them, resulted in the tracks appearing out of their correct order.
This happened both with an on-line merging tool and a downloaded
widget. The trick seems to be to drag and drop the individual mp3s
one at a time in the correct order into the program, for the output file
to produce the merged tracks also in their correct order. (I expect that
all classical music fans here share this desire for movements to be
correctly ordered.)

Re: World Premiere CD Recordings
Anyone with a passion for Mozart's operas might be forgiven
for being suspicious at the thought of a recording company
producing what is, in effect, a fake Mozart opera - a mish-mash
of his operatic music composed in the years before the great
da Ponte trilogy. I was certainly very dubious when buying the
2 CD box recently.
The opera is entitled 'Liberata!' It's on the Harmonia Mundi label.
Slightly strangely, apart from Mozart's music, with includes excerpts
from Lo Sposo Deluso, Thamos King of Egypt, and various of his
concert arias, there are also snippets of Paisiello, S*l*er* and Soler.
Having said all that, I absolutely loved it and would recommend it.
There is one downside to the recording. CD2 only runs for about 25
minutes and the work lacks a big finale, something that all Mozart's
great operas have, of course.

Re: World Premiere CD Recordings
Stanford fans and completists (like me) will be pleased to learn that
the Dante Quartet have this month released a CD which includes CVS's
String Quartet No.6 in A minor, Op.122, composed in August 1910.
It's remained unpublished and has never been recorded before, and
it completes the cycle of all eight String Quartets available on CD.
The Somm label is to be commended for producing it.

Re: World Premiere CD Recordings
Jonathan Powell's truly remarkable recording of Sorabji's Sequentia Cyclica super Dies Iræ that you mention and which was made in 2015 has now finally been released on the Piano Classics label, to great acclaim; it is a 7-CD box and very reasonably priced.4candles wrote: ↑Mon Jun 05, 2017 9:20 am Thanks for this. I also recently discovered this same set of Stanford complete piano works. Some lovely music.
Further to my post on Paul Juon, and as I know several PianoPhiles are interested in Sorabji (not least the pianist of the recording), I wanted to alert members to the fact that Toccata Classics plan to release the composer's Sequentia Cyclica super ‘Dies Irae’ ex Missa pro Defunctis in the coming months and are looking to subscribe advanced sales, if any of you would like to place your order. Quite an astonishing achievement by our friend isokani.

Another Sorabji world première recording is about to be released by the same label; this a Abel Sánchez-Aguilera's 2-CD box of Toccata Seconda (1933-34), which was the last work that its composer performed in public (Glasgow, 1936). It is also very reasonably priced.
