Re: Russian & Soviet Composers - Part 3
Thank you very much, Malcommballan wrote:I have added an updated version of my Encyclopaedia of Russian & Soviet Piano Music in the Literature section of this website, but have also added them to this thread. The latest update has a very major update of Latvian, Estonian and Lithuanian composers, plus many additions in Ukrainian and Russian composers (i have added over 500 additional short biographies and increased details on work lists). As I have stated many times this will remain a lifetime project !
I also plan over the next couple of weeks to post a number of works by Tatar composers, which were discovered on a website by a friend and fellow member of Pianophilia, and to make it easier for everyone I have downloaded all works and changed all titles to English. All these works will either be for piano solo or Two Pianos (lots of transcriptions). The quality of the scans vary considerably from quite poor (but readable) to very good. But as many of these composers are relatively rare, it is good to have so many scores available. In a number of cases there may be several movements to a work and hence by using the Encyclopaedia, you can see the English translation of said movements.

I like this bible of Russian composers !!!
Very useful.

Here's the second piece from Vrangel's Six Morceaux, Op.1 – the Chanson Naïve. Malcom kindly posted Nos. 1 & 3-6 a while back. See his post here:

This now completes the set, although from a different edition. Two nice recordings from the set by our own Phillip Sear:
The Romance, No.4

and the Petite Valse, No.6

Re: Russian & Soviet Composers - Part 3
Does anyone have a source for the MS of Rachmaninoff's Song without Words in d minor. (Is there an actual published version?) I ask as there exists a typeset version with at least one inconsistency. Besides an obvious missing natural (M4 B3 RH note A) there are several different recordings with a difference in the melody line – specifically the last F in M3 and the first F in M4. The typeset version doesn't indicate a sharp for these two notes and recordings seem to vary. To me playing these as F# seems right. I've attached the typeset version which appears to be identical to the one on IMSLP. Any info of the provenance of this piece? Thanks.

Two new uploads of piano music by Genary Korganov on IMSLP - the Rhapsodie caucasienne and 'Bayati' (Fantaisie sur les thèmes Caucasiens).

I once met Leman in Moscow in 1994 when there was a portrait concert at MGK. Malcolm -- thanks for these, and did you once meet my Tatar girlfriend?mballan wrote:Excellent.....many thanks Jim....great to have the full set.

Re: Russian & Soviet Composers - Part 3
Many thanks Fleubis, more to come.
Isokani - I met Galina at your London flat, was that the one ?
Next two Tatar composers.
Rashid Fagimovich Kalimullin (1957 - ) Aleksandr Sergeyevich Klyucharyov (1906-1972). The odd work by Klyucharyov have been bouncing around the internet for a few years (Native Pictures or Pictures of Home was posted by Alfor, and Shurale has been upload here previously). A few more to add to the collection (also two works under the Two Pianos thread as well). Malcolm

Re: Russian & Soviet Composers - Part 3
A whole lot to enjoy here! Haven't had so much interesting music to look at in months. Quite enamored with Kiyucharov "Mysteries of the Forest Lake".
Thank you, Malcolm. Ah, the weekend ahead of playing through all these interesting pieces!
