Alfor's Rarities

Although I generally appreciate well-fingered editions,
I nevertheless am occasionally missing unfingered editions, where I can
put down my own fingerings without crossing-out or overwriting
the editors.
It is only recently, that a couple of unfingered Urtext
editions of Chopin have been published (Peters).

I tried to save some money and ordered the cheap
Koenemann edition of the Sonatas, but I still cannot stand
their horrible typography - not to mention an awkward spacing.

I do not know of any other unfingered Edition of the Chopin Sonatas
(apart from Lea Pocket Scores).

Moriz ROSENTHAL (eminent piano virtuoso although IMHO his pianistic musicianship
may be a bit doubtful, taken his late recording of Chopin's Sonata op. 58 as reference.
Composed much less than Friedman; some of his compositions display a pianistic and harmonic
refinement reminiscent of Godowsky, others are nice salon trifles.)

Variations on an Original Theme (Furstner c. 1903)
[Note: these were republished in 1928 by Fürstner as “Zehn Charackerstucke” with the following titles:
Theme, Arabeske, Scherzando ma deciso, Aria, Ballabile, Nocturne, A la Tarantella, Tempo di
Mazurka, Petite Etude, Feuillet d’album, Finale con Intermezzo]

The Variations (available on IMSLP) are the source but contain a number of differences. Good to have both versions available.

I saw that Alfor posted scores by Frommel before in the Rarities thread, so I ask, has anyone seen scores for Frommel's Romance and Serenade? I believe that they were released as a pair...

Apparently, there are two Frommel's - mine is Hermann Frommel (Alfor's was Gerhard).

Anyway, these are quite nice pieces. Feel free to move, where appropriate, as necessary. The first two have been recorded by the dedicatee, Alexander Raab. The last has been recorded in Salon orchestra version on the very pleasant Silent-Cinema-themed disc, "Love, Betrayal, and Redemption."
