The Unknown Composer

An enchanting waltz by the unknown M V Rees-Newland. I originally thought British but in searching on the name came across the same name in USA and New Zealand ! The only M was a Mary from the States. Who knows ?

Think I saw a recording on-line............probably by Maestro Sear.

Indeed, I have had a hard copy of this piece for many years, probably bought in the music section of a long-since-closed second-hand bookshop here in the UK!

This year marks 75 years since Harty died, so I think his works can now be regarded as public domain.

Indeed, it is KV 8, a youth sonata for keyboard and violin. Composed in 1763 in Paris, at age 7. So you did buy a genuine Mozart!

The allegro was copied as solo keyboard version in Nannerl's notebook with note "November 23, 1763 in Paris." Published in Paris in April 1764 as Op 2 No. 1 with a dedication to the Comtesse de Tessé.
