Re: Musical puns, jokes, and teasers
Well, 2016 is nearly upon us, so to celebrate,
here's another cryptic quiz. This one is a little
unusual, to say the least. All you have to do
is name the composer involved.
00.Ignorant Y-fronts humbug, inhumane nymph! (8,6,6,6,2,1,5)
0.Moribund honesty manuring nymph. (8,6,6,2,1,5)
1.Sunny commie or bonnier nymph? (8,6,3,2,1,5)
2.Bonnie, worry communist nymph! (8,6,3,2,1,5)
3.Robin, undermine smothery, nymph! (8,6,5,2,1,5)
4.Manly ruffian or temerous job, nymph? (8,6,4,2,1,4,5)
5.Overaffirm nimble snub - joy at nymph! (8,6,4,2,1,4,5)
6.Marx, joyous brain, mines nymph! (8,6,3,2,1,5)
7.Enjoy inverse, membranous nymph! (8,6,5,2,1,5)
8.Merit ignominy on cherub's nymph. (8,6,5,2,1,5)
9.I'm in snob innuendo, merry nymph! (8,6,4,2,1,5).

Re: Musical puns, jokes, and teasers
Hi Tim,
I solved this one in under ten seconds but for decency's sake will not post the answer here and see if anyone else is as sharp, though I do admit I couldn't finish the last one.
regards
Brian

Ah, dear Brian - why am I not surprised that you got it so
quickly, and that you were unABle to finish the last one?

Hi Tim
Well, not quite in Brian's time of ten seconds, partly because I dug out my set of Tintner's recordings to cross-check the keys. I think D minor for the last is by courtesy only.
Well done for managing to contort the letters into something that made some sort of sense in English. All those nymphs... did you need to take a cold shower afterwards?
Regards
Jo

As far as I know Jo, he devised the anagrams in the shower but whether it was a hot or a cold shower is at present unknown, as is also known AB was a great swimmer and could hold his breath and swim under water as if he had gills and I think that is where Tim got the inspiration from whilst in the inner sanctum.

Re: Musical puns, jokes, and teasers
Hi Jo and Brian,
Congrats to both on cracking the quiz almost instantly.
It was, if I'm honest, mainly an exercise to see what nonsense I
could produce from the problem of anagrammising works which
don't normally attract this type of treatment.
Of course, numbering the clues as such was a clue in itself,
and the 11 nymphs were in part a way of dealing with several
awkward letters at a stroke, and were partly a window into my
psyche, dominated as it is by such thoughts, the antidote
being huge dosages of bromide tea and regular cold showers.
Please note, there are more quizzes in the pipeline (pun intended).....
Happy New Year, Tim.

Re: Musical puns, jokes, and teasers
Here's another little quiz. As a football fan, it seemed
appropriate to have 11 players. As the format is similar
to past ones, I'll not bother to explain the rules.
1. Dalek or hard nut to crack. (6,5)
2. Transfer rare transfer. (6,6)
3. Jerks if mains shocks. (5,7)
4. Narrowly dead, decomposed. (6,6)
5. Choler - atomic reaction. (5,7)
6. A fresh rank refreshed. (5,5)
7. Attach hot theme as variation. (9,7)
8. Fatal fans resurrected. (4,5)
9. Free toy fogey plays around. (8,4)
10. Wrecked fiery lad wrecked. (9,6)
11. Reach wild wrath wildly. (7,7)

Not so easy this time Tim, I knew 7 of them and guessed with that knowledge that the rest were all pupils of Sir Charles Villiers Stanford your favourite composer.
The rest was just deduction and sweat.
cheers
Brian

Also, what you said underneath the answers was bang on. Congrats,
and may our respective football teams be equally successful this season!
