Hi Tim,
well done plus you get brownie points for supplying the answers to next years questions at Christmas!! I would be curious to know actually how many of them you know through their music, maximum three or four I would think.
Your turn to play devil's advocate for the New Year.
regards
Brian

Re: Musical puns, jokes, and teasers
Hi Brian,
Thanks, and yes, you're right, of course. Almost all the names
on there are just names to me. Gibbons, Ximenez, and Mondonville
are the only ones whom I'd come across previously, as the
Hiller given in the quiz isn't the famous one.
It's unfortunate that so few PPers get involved with it all, but
nevertheless, I'll endeavour to resume quizzing in the new year.
Regards,
Tim.

Okay, it's Christmas, therefore it must be time for another quiz!
There are 7 cryptic clues and the answers have something in common.
The question is, what?
1.Disturbed by sane thriller (14).
2.LPs I'm playing (1,1,1,1,1).
3.Flip coin, amuse (9).
4.A hip pain oil mixture (11).
5.Nastier poet rewrites it (11).
6.Recross cross (7).
7.Secure thievish cam eccentrically (17).

I have filled in the easy ones and will let Rob and Nogbert fight over the ones I can't think of. The link is I suppose that they all seem to offer scores to download, I would though object to No.4 not being in the No.1 slot, the rest can fight it out between them.
happy humbug and christmas in equal quantities to all

Re: Musical puns, jokes, and teasers
Hi Brian, very good. They're all music download sites, of course.
The order is based on the answers being in alphabetical order,
which is why Pianophilia isn't first.
Strictly speaking, Musicaneo is the answer to No.3, but no matter.
No.1 has a composer's name included in it, and No.5 is what one
might call the road to our favourite instrument!
Regards, Tim.

Actually No.3 is correct, there is a music download site called Neomusica though I cannot remember if they offer scores or recordings.

Re: Musical puns, jokes, and teasers
Actually No.3 whilst technically correct in that you can download from their site is a definite no-no, as it is only recordings of contemporary popular music (so-called), so I will stand corrected Tim.
I have added No.2 in the list leaving just no.5 for anyone that might like to guess it.
Brian
Ok I've given you all enough time it is of course (see above)

Thank you Brian for playing the game, and scoring
all 7 goals, including one in off the post, as it were.
Continuing the metaphor, I'll be getting the ball out
again shortly, for another anagrammatic kickabout.
Regards, Tim.

Re: Musical puns, jokes, and teasers
And I hope I can get onto the metaphorical ball before Brian beats me to it. I've been pretty quiet for the past year or so, having had other things to occupy my mind. Even having been officially ""retired" for the past year hasn't given me any free time; having an emeritus post has kept me as busy as ever. I'll try to be active on this site again in 2016!Timtin wrote:Thank you Brian for playing the game, and scoring

Hi Jo,
It's partly my fault that you didn't spot the new quiz,
seeing as I hadn't done any for a whole year.
Anyway, I'll be posting a New Year's Day quiz later
this week.
The above quiz referred to IMSLP. Are they making
folk pay to use it now, at least for those naughty people
who never contribute files? A paradigm for PP to follow,
perhaps?
Regards, Tim.
