Thank you, Alfred for the most interesting Rosenthal edition of the Mephisto. There is quite a few useful suggestions here. I would question his specifying the pedal changes above the treble clef - easier to see?

Mephisto Waltz!!! Thanks Alfor. I like his idea of executing those leaps in octaves (that part towards the final climax). Perhaps that would make life easier?

Philanthropic nonsense? Alfred you should know by now how much we all appreciate your hard work in bringing to us these outstanding postings like this Liszt concerto.

Ah, that you should mention procuring a used Steinway Grand....such an opportunity I turned down recently. A friend is moving back to the US and was offering just such an instrument. Alas, I walked away from this opportunity due to the difficulties of maintenance. So while I lust for the sounds of real hammers on strings, I will endure "sampled" strings.

I appreciate your encouraging words, dear fleubis.

But the truth is that less than a handful of all PP members will ever have the opportunity to play this Liszt Concerto with Orchestra. So they are not seriously interested in this edition and equally not much in my other postings.

Most PP members neither have the time nor any sort of deeper interest in studying and discussing the music posted (admittedly only one third of all my postings is worth enough to be discussed in any way. Problem is that it will still take some time before I will be able to post immortal masterpieces; and if so probably only as previews...)

I really wonder how many downloads I would have experienced over the time if people would have had to pay for my scans (cf. websites like „Musicaneo.com“)!!

Well, I for one, will certainly never be playing this Liszt concerto (or any other for that matter) with orchestra and agree that most Pianophilia members will not either. However, I do enjoy playing through the piano parts and investigating what good editors think about such concertos.

Your piano solo postings are quite a different matter and I would suggest that a great number of members play and enjoy the hidden treasures you unearth and that your choices have broad appeal (not in the Webern/avant-garde/12 tone arena which have limited appeal for both the pianist and audience).

I rarely visit sites such as Musicaneo.com. I limit my computer time so as to have more time for PLAYING and composition and hope to enjoy whatever you choose to post. Searching the vast variety of sources available is not something many of us are able to do.

Dear Alfor, you share the lot of all those who have done a lot for the pianist community by buying and sharing great number of scores. I am thinking for example of Capriotti, Thal, Malcolm, Henning, Kvizy, Timtin and so many that I cannot cite here, not to mention the new ones very active like Scriabinoff, Emil Sernov, and so on. I did myself quite a bit in the former forum. And we have probably all experienced that same feeling at some point ; is that useful ? why do we care to buy, scan and share if nobody or nearly nobody even says thank you, maybe nobody will even use it ? I must say that there is very little of what you post that I am able to play ; my level is only intermediate. But I am positively sure that there is at least someone in the vast world, now or maybe only in a few years, who is or will be very happy and grateful that you spent so much money and time to collect and share that great repertoire. So yes, it is philanthropy to do it and continue, but it is not nonsense. It is useful and precious. We must only be prepared to accept the apparent ungratefulness, the lack of constant acknowledgement and admiration. Discrete philanthropy is certainly the most valuable one. But it is difficult, and I must admit I was often pissed off just as you may be from time to time. But what do we cherish the most ? Being praised for our generosity or allowing the music we love to be spread out in every place of the world ?
