Salon music
As Wikipedia defines it, "Salon music was a popular music genre in Europe during the 19th century. It was usually written for solo piano in the romantic style, and often performed by the composer at events known as "Salons". Salon compositions are usually fairly short and often focus on virtuoso pianistic display or emotional expression of a sentimental character. Common sub-genres of salon music are the operatic paraphrase or fantasia, in which multiple themes from a popular opera are the basis of the composition, and the musical character-piece, which portrays in music a particular situation or narrative."

The distinction with parlour music (see the corresponding thread) is not always obvious.

Re: Salon music
I do hope that this the right thread for my scan of Eduard Schütt's op.60 and that I didn't upload it to the old forum, already. Enjoy!

Eh eh, dear kh0815, since you have been one of the best contributors to the former similar thread in the old forum, you did indeed upload it there on March 23, 2007.kh0815 wrote:I do hope that this the right thread for my scan of Eduard Schütt's op.60 and that I didn't upload it to the old forum, already. Re: Salon music
The basic material was mine, when I opened the thread "One Century of Salon music" in the old forum in March 2007:kh0815 wrote:Another E. Schütt Album from my collection.

However, I prefer this optimized version. Thank you.

Re: Salon music
Dearest Jean-Séb, please pardon me if I didn't respect your scanning work - I'm the first to put the "NMS" (not my scan) remark in my posts. Unfortunately the Schütt Album was in my file "to be posted" and had an inferior pdf quality quite similar to the time before I learnt to cut the pages; so I tried to optimize it.
I'd like to give you back the flowers (as we say in Germany) and to underline, that IMHO you are one of the most sympathetic, generous, and "savant" members of PPh (anytime). Have a nice Sunday in France and anywhere!
