Thanks for letting me know. I was intrigued by your excerpt.Jim Faston wrote:Found it! The piece is actually in D--the Missa Solemnis by Franz Xaver Süssmayr. It was on Youtube at one time but got pulled--here's a link that will let you hear a little more of it--well worth listening to:Timtin wrote:Mozart's Masses, Litanies and Vespers all tended to
have more than 5 movements - Kyrie, Gloria, Credo.
Sanctus, Benedictus, Agnus Dei, and Dona being the
ones used in most of his masses. Also, E flat wasn't
a key he used much in religious works. It's a puzzle!

Funny because I thought of him by chance but did not dare propose the name.
I find his Ave Verum absolutely superb :

and, of course, so ... Mozartian.

Re: Choral Music
Lovely... Wonder if he wrote any keyboard music? Speaking of Sussmayr, another composer associated to Mozart and the completion of the Requiem is Freystaedlter... there ought to be a Mozart's pupils thread somewhere. Freystaedtler also wrote one of the Diabelli variations... odd that I cannot find any scores by him, not even an imslp page!Jean-Séb wrote:Funny because I thought of him by chance but did not dare propose the name.

Re: Choral Music
Somewhat surprisingly, Sussmayr only wrote two piano pieces,
an Adagio in F and a Sonata in B. His Organ Sonatina on IMSLP
can be played on the piano, as it only has two staves.
This is the official Austrian website for all things Sussmayr-ish,
including the SmWV list and a discography, which includes his Sonata.

There were rumours that Mozart's son Franz Xaver was actually the
son of Sussmayr.
This link helps to answer the question of who Mozart's pupils were.

This is a recent CD of music by Mozart's pupils, which also brings
Storace and Hummel into the mix.

Thanks for the pupil list, Timtin. I don't usually expect to find legitimate answers on Yahoo "Answers". But where is Hummel?!

Re: Choral Music
I just came across this scan of RVW's Mass in G Minor that I made for a colleague a while back before a copy was available on IMSLP.

There are a number of good recordings available on Youtube, including this one (split into two parts).http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_5H8fgY6Tu8

Thank you, Jim !
I'm a big fan of Vaughan Williams !
So far I did not know this mass, but now I listen to it and it is another big find. Love it!
Thank you!
Best regards, Ferruccio

Re: Choral Music
Canons without Op. by Felix Draeseke
I am not sure if this is the best place but I simply can not find any better thread here.
I just want to mention, that I have transcribed scores in notationsoftware and digitally produced first recordings of them.
I have uploaded and linked both at the imslp: http://imslp.org/wiki/30_Canons_zu_2-8_ ... ke,_Felix)
(You can find the recordings directly with http://klassik-resampled.de/draeseke)
Meanwhile I used solovoices for my recordings, actually there is nothing defined by Draeseke how this music might be performed. Of course his main interest was the counterpoint, what in my eyes still givessome interesting music.
I hope you like it
