Re: Alfor's Rarities
I find Neruda's #6 Prel & Fuge very Bach-like in both themes and construction. I don't think I've ever seen so many consecutive thirds in the bass of any fugue I'm familiar with, but this composer likes these thick textures, but being in a bright key of E, things are still bright and shiny. Thanks for No.6, Alfred.....this is the half-way point!

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Alfred, I sure do like the 8th Neruda Prel & Fuge. There are some very nice harmonic sequences in the prelude which I really like, and the composer is very adept at creating. The textural density of the prelude is contrasted by the delightful fugue with a much lighter texture. On page 11 he does something unexpected by breaking off the polyphonic texture with a solo for the fugue subject which is the start of what is basically a coda. The composer clearly follows Bach's model of balancing complexity with the a more simple style when contrasting the prelude and fugue. This fugue is much fun to play. Thanks for #7 & #&, dear Alfred.

Re: Alfor's Rarities
In prelude #9, Neruda treats us to a nice sicilano in one of the lightest textured preludes in the set so far. One of the interesting points about the fugue is the entry of the second voice....which enters without counterpoint immediately after the initial statement which was a 5th lower. Sort of makes you wonder what goes on here! Listeners will hopefully be surprised by this. Lest we forget, there is no "standard" fugue in spite of shelves full of counterpoint books trying to insist otherwise. Lest, I fail to mention it, this one is quite a bit of fun to play. Thanks for No. 9, Alfred.
