Dear Alfred,

Many thanks for the Andriessen and Kullak scores...both very impressive! I have a special fondness for Kullak because he taught Moszkowski (and of course many others). What I would give to have seen his Conservatoire in Dresden! Talk about wonderful "days beyond recall."

As Always,

Thank you very much for feedback!!

Some more

Oscar ESPLA
Suite de Pequenas Piezas para Piano
Espla Suite de Pequenas Piezas.pdf
As always with Espla, the spanish element is only very subdued;
instead there are Bach, Scarlatti and Offenbach hommages.

Alfor, it's been a long time since I've played any Espla, and his suite is interesting. After starting with the rather tame Preludio, the pieces get progressively more interesting and I particularly like the Air de Danse Pastorale. Also thanks to lito valle for his Espla postings, stil other pieces of Espla's that I'm not familiar with.

And dear Frank, thanks for enlightening me to some of the history of kullak, whom I've only know through some rather boring technical exercises.

Dear Franz,

you are welcome!

For many decades the "Ästhetik des Klavierspiels" by Theodor's brother Adolf was the standard book on piano playing. Has been translated into English.

Dear Alfred, the Medtner pieces are indeed masterfully written. I so much enjoy the first piece, Nixe, as it is so very original and highly pianistic. It is great to have these longer form pieces and Medtner is consistently outstanding in the development of his material--the same cannot often be said of many of the miniaturists who try their hand at larger pieces.

It is great to have yet another Espla piece to play. I note the Espla sure seem to like trills, and some passages I find somewhat challenging.

Yet another great post. Thank you!

How do you like that, dear Frank?

Carl REINECKE
Suite op. 169
Reinecke Suite op.169.pdf
Fine 19th century writing. Some nostalgic flair. May slightly lack a distinct individual character.
