Re: Hummel's Piano Method (1828)
Speaking of CPE Bach, is there a scan of an english translation of his Essay on the True Art of Playing Keyboard Instruments?
Re: Hummel's Piano Method (1828)
Hello Klaviersonic!
I haven't managed to locate a scan of this on any of the websites I use for downloading pedagogical literature. Mitchell's 1949 translation was (as Mitchell states in his preface) the first ever published and is still in copyright, which explains its unavailability. So, unless someone generously donates a translation of their own as public domain material, I guess we're restricted to scans of the original German or of the French translation (both available at IMSLP as I'm sure you know) for a good few years to come. Otherwise, I'd certainly be planning to scan the Mitchell myself as a must-have for the reference library of my own forthcoming website. (Frankly, I can't envisage ever getting round to translating the Essay myself - I've a project lined up to translate Tuerk's method which is likely to take some years to complete!)
Best regards,
Richard.

Dear friends,
at long last the massive part 2 to complete the Hummel Art of playing the Piano, it is in 4 files as 310 pages would be rather too much for one file.

This is Amazing.
It's almost like the Liszt exercises for the Classical Era. Very systematic.

Hello Brian -
What a joy to behold! I shudder to think of the number of hours you must have spent on this, let alone on the project as a whole, but the release of your magnificent result amounts to a major event for all with an interest in the historical development of piano-playing and methodology, and I can't thank you enough for responding to my original plea for help in the amazing way you have.
My very best regards and wishes,
Richard.

It was my pleasure Richard, I knew that one day I had to scan this as it would seem that there are precious few copies around, the big libraries included, and your request was the catalyst and made me get out of my sit back and wait chair.
best wishes
Brian
