Ave Maria

Dear friends,
I have had to play over the last few years at least three different versions of the abominable Ave Maria (supposedly) by Caccini. I am yet to be convinced it is by him as I have never seen an original version and all the versions suck as regards harmony and quality. if one exists I feel it is an orchestral or choral work and not a solo song. Can anyone throw light on this and tell me where to find the original.
Rather than create a thread for just this piece I have decided that a dedicated thread to the Ave Maria genre might be interesting. Here is a link to a site claiming to list all known ave marias!

You haven't played my arrangement

It was, if you recall, popularised by the marvellous Inessa Galante, but even then I felt as you do that it was not urtext Caccini. After minor 7th and major 7th chords were not to my mind Renaissance harmonies.

I have never seen an 'original' and I doubt that one exists.

Exactly, my old friend, Handel's Dank sei Dir, Herr (by Siegfried Ochs) being yet another. What interests me is how people were so easily taken in by absolute rubbish music that even a 10 year old would have said was not by Handel. So back to the question who wrote the Ave maria by Caccini and if it did exist what was its original incarnation? If it is fake who was the first to trumpet its existence, after Galante came Bocelli and then the rest followed in their wake, but who got the ball rolling???

Thank goodness for that, it just goes to prove that as musicians we must use our ears and the bit in between when an piece like this surfaces. It is a nice confirmation for us all here that we do in fact listen critically. I will with the greatest of pleasure tell all the future singers who actually wrote the tripe and then let them decide if they really want to pursue it any more.

since hours I have searched the web but to (almost) no avail.

I'm looking for Widor's works:

- op. 8 "O Salutaris" (I finally managed to buy that from crescendomusicpubs)
- op. 24 Ave Maria for Voice, (Harp,) Organ
- op. 59 Ave Maria for double Choir, 2 Organs, Orchestra
- Psalm 112 (Voice, (Harp,) Organ

Does anyone have a clue in which direction to point?

I'm looking for the Kabasawa transcription of Caccini(?) Ave Maria
It seems according to the informations I could find on youtube that the score is out of print, found a link to Amazon Japan but everything is in Japanese.
If someone could help with the score or some informations will be great.
