Something in a much lighter vein - Aleksandr Nikolaevich Tcherniavsky. Born 1871, St. Petersburg: died 1942, Leningrad. Russian pianist, composer and arranger. After graduating from the St. Petersburg Conservatory, he worked for many years as an accompanist in theatres across St. Petersburg and several provincial cities, while also writing a lot of ballads, songs, couplets, salon pieces and military marches. His songs were once very popular in Russia, and his military marches and soldiers' songs were heard in the Russian army during World War II. After 1917 he lived in Leningrad and wrote for the stage.

I suppose to alternative spelling of Tcherniavsky is the same as Chernyavsky.
Thanks for this. I am only familiar with the 20th century soviet composer Vladimir Cheryavsky, who has a symphony no.1 released on melodiya lp. Did not know there is an older one ! Prolly he is the grandfather of the later composer?

Why have one Russian composer when you can have seven !!! Some friends asked about scanning and posting this score as most only seemed to have one or two of the variations [usually those by Lyadov]......so full work duly posted.

This collection of variations is essential, mostly for have surely the complete works of all these composers.

Malc, the Gozenpud etudes are delightful and much fun to play. Alas, I do not have the complete works of all the composers who submitted variations, but as Duirton says, it will fill that void when one comes close to having the complete works...did I mention that the variations hold together pretty nicely. I get heartburn thinking about what would happen today should any publisher dare to initiate such collection of variations today, but a time there was!
