Since the name of Gerald Finzi has been mentioned on this topic, does anyone have "Finzi, His Rest" written by Herbert Howells (a terrible name for someone who has written vocal music). I believe it is from a suite of clavichord pieces that Howells wrote as tribute to both clavichord music and composers. I heard a recording of it on the Hyperion label some time ago--Just looked it up-- the suite is called "Howells Clavichord".

Yes, I have Vignettes from La Côte d'Argent and Sonatine, both sitting in my pile of scans to do, which will be done as soon as possible

William ALWYN
Fantasy Waltzes
IMHO his best piano work. Would make most effective recital pieces, but unfortunately is never programmed. Recorded by Ogdon and - my personal favourite as original mono Lyrita LP pressing - Sheila Randell. Also on Lyrita his wonderful symphonies, also highly recommended!

As the composer is still under copyright and the score available, I could post some sample pages, if anybody is interested.

I agree with you, Alfor about the Fantasy Waltzes: a wonderfully varied and imaginative set, lasting almost half an hour, and a fine combination of brilliance and introversion. The Preludes are pretty good as well, although less ambitious.
