Hi Alfor, and thanks for your latest.

With this latest volume of Musik der Zeit, clearly the editors have opted fora more "modern" tone and I must admit to not caring for several of the pieces. For instance, I've never cared for Krenek. However, there are others which are a delight, like the Milhaud Rag-Caprice. This series sure has something for everyone.

The Mayer tremolo etude certainly does keep the right hand busy and I wonder how Godowsky missed coming up with a version for the left hand. And therein is my complaint - no work for the left hand since I feel if one is going to spend time working on and etude, both hands need to get to work on solving the same technical problem. That said, there is still a place for this etude and I can see why it was once somewhat popular.

Alfor, it has been quite a ride going thru all six volume of Musik der Zeit and into serialism, which is not my cup of tea, but seen as a whole, these volumes are a real treasure and a wonderful resource and I thank you for posting them.

Alkan? Yes, Alfor, THIS IS my favorite Alkan etude. (I get quite disgusted with myself after hearing Martin and then Hamelin play this piece) This is an etude that answers all my objections and I continue to strive to perfect it, but I'm pretty sure I'll never be in the league of those two masters, still it is always on music desk and often worked on. I am always on the lookout for other etudes which address different technical issues that work both hands as well as this one.

Alkan? Yes, Alfor, THIS IS my favorite Alkan etude.

i always felt that Alkan's metronomic marking was exaggerated here. Instead of 160 crotchets per minute, I think it it should be 160 semiquavers per minute. Then I might have more than a snowball's chance in hell of playing it...
