Alfred Grünfeld
I thought I would like to tackle several composers in the same vein as I did the Goldenveizer, and have one thread purposely dedicated to the composer with a list of works that are then populated as and when score are located and posted by members.
As I shared some of my Grunfeld scores with some friends recently, Mr P and I thought we would scan all of the works we currently hold by him, and subsequently post on PP for everyone's enjoyment.
I have highlighted works held by IMSLP, and those works I will post against show a # against the opus. Unfortunately there are still many gaps in both my knowledge and actual scores on what works Grunfeld composed....but hopefully this thread will stimulate interest and enthusiasm in Grunfeld and his music.
Special thanks to Caprotti for additional information on the works list, and the potential whereabouts of some of the missing scores.
Malcolm & Mr P
Alfred Grünfeld. Pianist and composer. Born 1852, Prague: died 1924, Vienna. Studied at Prague and then later at Kullak’s Academy in Berlin. Settle in Vienna in 1873, and established himself there as a popular concert pianist and teacher. He also concertized extensively across Europe and including Russia. He composed an operetta “Der Lebemann”, and a comic opera “Die Schönen von Fogaras” – both of which were unsuccessful. Made several brilliant arrangements for piano of waltzes by Johann Strauss and had published a number of his piano pieces.
