I treasure these recordings. After some of the most boring moments in the universe with all that Schubert stuff -and many recordings adjust the keys anyway- it's nice to put the emperor's clothes back on and enjoy a bloke who could really write songs and have fun at it.
And as a pianist, whatever, Schubert is profound -yes, yes, of course- (crikey), it's such a relief to play accompaniments that are fun to play without the intellectual complications of Gerald Moore and company, but which some of us find life too short to get excited about.
