Hi tobyjj,

I just wanted to send a quick note of thanks and encouragement! These German theatre magazines are just great. You're saving an interesting piece of history by scanning them (which we all know is a great deal of work) and you can see from the growing number of downloads that the Pianophilia membership appreciates this effort!

All Best,

Frank :D

Thanks for the thumbs up Frank.

I did notice that they were being downloaded, but there were no comments, so I was beginning to wonder how welcome they were or weren't.

However, as Magnus Magnusson frequently said - "I've started, so I'll finish ..."

In any event, I think I share the same philosophy as yourself when it comes to preserving musical heritage through sharing. I have no problem sharing what I have so unless told to stop, I'll continue.

Next one tomorrow, hopefully.

regards,
tobyjj

Hello All,

The next TTT

No.4 of 1938

A general request - does anyone have any of the following:-

George Botsford:
"The Katy Flyer" (1899)

"Dance Of The Gowns" (1909)
"Venetian Beauties" (1910) ?

And, if so - could you share?

Thanks

Hello All,

Despite the lack of any apparent interest, (other than Frank's and GJF323's!) I will continue ... for both of you.

No.5 1938 TTT
This one and the next few to come are NMOS TTOS
1938 - 5 Tonfilm-Theater-Tanz.pdf
Regards,
tobyjj

P.S.
Since I failed to get any response to the Botsford pieces.

Does anyone have any of the following:-
Henry Lodge solos:
"Shadow Dreams" (1921)
"In A Tea Garden" (1923)
"Moonlight Silhouettes" (1924)
"Moon Madness" (1925)
"Baiser D'Amour" (1926)
"Bunny Hug" (1928)

thanks ...

Hi tobyjj,

Sorry I wasn't able to respond sooner re. the Botsford pieces... I don't have them, in fact I've been searching for "Katy Flyer" for over 40 years now! That particular title is of mythical rarity in the field of ragtime. The other pieces may have been included in early collections of novelettes intended for photoplay use, but I don't have these either. Same on the Thomas Henry Lodge pieces. Actually, the only one I've ever heard of is "Bunny Hug," which I think was listed at the end of "They All Played Ragtime". I tried to get both "Katy Flyer" and "Bunny Hug" at the Library of Congress back in the 70s, but they were not there. I can't remember the copyright status of these. It's possible they were published without copyright originally (many good ragtime pieces were). Wish I could be more help on these, but all the titles are truly "Ragtime Hen's Teeth!"

Thanks for your continued great work on sharing the "Tonfilm" magazines! There is a lot of fascinating history in these, as well as delightful music. I'm certainly enjoying them very much.

All Best,

Frank :D

For those of us suffering from the rare medical condition known in
Latin as feedbackus-lackus-terminalis, I don't have a cure, but do I
know that the symptoms can be relieved by purchasing a microphone
and then plugging into a hi-fi amplifier. Simply hold the mic near to
the amp then turn up the volume. It works a treat!

Hi Toby & All,

Toby - thanks for the continued influx of those rare 1930s German theater & film magazines. My reading knowledge of German is getting better from these!

I had the opportunity to scan several useful blues song folios. Here is the first one, by Melrose Bros. Music in Chicago, circa late 1920s. Enjoy!

All Best,

Frank
