Please someone tell me silly guy: Why are there almost only Composers starting with a "c" in Gallica ??

I agree with Ferruccio...after spending quite some time on this site (and downloading a few nice items) I was unable to find any composers with last names that didn't begin with "C" !!!
Maybe there is another way around the site, but I sure haven't found it!

Well, I got the Bach Goldberg Variations there, but other than that they were nearly all under C. I figured it was just a matter of scanning in alphabetical order.
I know that they scanned several C composers today because I actually downloaded fifty scores by mistake, getting an ftp folder while trying to get only one work. I investigated what I acquired, and have begun to upload them on my own site. I have new French scores by a dozen C composers on my site this evening: Cazaneuve, Charpentier (Charles and Ferdinand). Charreire, Charrey, Charriol, Chartier, Charton, Chassain de la Plasse, Clauzel de St. Martin-Valogne, Cognet, et Colomer, and I was just getting started.

Henri Kowalski. Born 1841, Paris: died 1916, Bordeaux. Pianist and composer. Studied piano with Marmontel and composition with Reber. He wrote a number of interesting and delightful piano pieces - Marche hongroise, Twelve Caprices en forme d'etudes, barcarolle chinoise, Serenade japonaise and similar characteristic pieces.

His best known work, the Marche Hongroise, is available through IMSLP [along with Belles of Melbourne].

Thank you, Malcolm. I think we talked a liitle about him in the former PiPhi. We mentioned that he lived for some time in Australia, which explains a title like "les belles de Melbourne".

Yes, I noticed with Kowlaski that one of the libraries in Australia did seem to have a fair representation of his scores - I hadn't realised that his concert tours had taken him that far [quiet amazing for the period].

Not related to this thread but......re. Charles John....you do amaze me with what you can find on these obscure composers.....excellent research, I couldn't seem to locate anything about him. Wonder why he was so popular with the ladies of Paris ??

And I'll check to see what other Borowski I might have. I do like the Sonata Russe, an interesting and enjoyable work.

Have scores of Migot been posted? I think I have most if not all of his known/published piano works.

I've searched this site and IMSLP and there are no scores posted by this composer. I am completely unfamiliar with Migot and for one would be highly interested in any of his piano works.

Hi Frank,

Stephane Lemelin recorded a 2-disc set on ATMA (not complete works), and there is Migot society in France run by his family (?) - http://www.georgesmigot.info/. Beyond that I know little about pianists who are playing his scores.

I will try to scan all of them in the coming days then.
