Dear Alfor,

thank you very much indeed for excellent scans! But there is a missing page in Fiedler op.4. The first page of the third piece is missing, please could you scan it?

I should scan the 147 pages of: "The piano music of Alkan" edited by Raymond Lewenthal.
Being an Alkan afficionado from way back, I actually have a physical copy of this (as well as most of his other works). I think it is out of copyright now (being more than 25 years since publication). It is essentially an annotated version of the original publications, most of which are now available on the net. I must admit it is a very good and entertaining edition IMHO, so it wold be worth your scanning it.

Hi Alfor,

On the Alkan-Lewenthal book of 100++ pages, my personal thinking is that your time might be better spent scanning the extraordinarily rare material you usually post instead. Not that the Alkan isn't rare of course...but his works are available on IMSLP and many other sheet music download sites internationally. I doubt that there is anything in the Lewenthal collection that isn't readily available elsewhere on-line. Also the Lewenthal book was published by Schirmer and was available here in the US for many years. I've had one since it came out, along with the various LP's of Alkan that Lewenthal recorded at the time.

I am enjoying the Fiedler scores very much, along with everything else you have recently posted. For all of these, as always Vielen Dank! :D

All Best,

Frank

Max FIEDLER
Klavierstücke op. 6
corrected file - thank you, Georgeham (Schinken-Georg??)
Fiedler Klavierstücke op.6.pdf
Hans von BÜLOW
Elfenjagd op. 14
ein "blitzsauberes" Stück, in the Mendelssohn tradition,
not very exciting, but an excellent velocity study nevertheless
(it is a bit strange, that so few Liszt pupils tried to compose in the style of their master)
Bülow Elfenjagd op.14.pdf
Ignaz BRÜLL
Sonate op. 73
interesting piece, though the piano style of this accomplished composer,
pianist and conductor (friend of Brahms) sometimes appears even amateurish.
Nevertheless spots of great beauty
Scherzo Mendelssohn influenced, other parts show Brahms influence (last bars resemble op. 15)
page 9: A major resembles Regers "Mariä Wiegenlied"
page 24 is (or sounds like) a beautiful folk-song (British, Irish??)
Brüll Sonate op.73.pdf

Thank you Alfor, specially for Brull, which I think is a good composer.

"The piano music of ALKAN" edited and annotated by Raymond Lewenthal (Schirmer)
A compromise:
as the sheet music of this volume is available, I decided to scan only
the foreword, which contains many bits of insightful information.

I was about to suggest that you could do so - these are indeed insightful and humorous pages, so I thank you for scanning them!
Also thanks for your other recent postings, especially the Delage and von Bülow.

The unknown composer:

Rose DEPECKER (French pianist and composer; born: 07 Jun 1869 Paris)
Deux Fugues pour piano
I. Fugue a quatres parties sur un sujet de Charles Gounod
II. Fugue a trois parties sur un sujet de Alphonse Duvernoy
virtuoso free-style fugues (the first with a cadenza!) reminiscent of Saint-Saens
Depecker 2 Fugues.pdf
Alfred SCHATTMANN (German composer and journalist, 1876-??)
Sieben ausgewählte Klavierstücke
Recommended! (He should have consulted Sorabji for the last piece, though,
who would have spiced the wine with some bits of opium or cocaine :D )
Schattmann Klavierstücke.pdf
