I must confess my ignorance of many of Liszt's works, so this is a new discovery for me. The connection of Schubert to supposedly Hungarian melodies is something else new to me. Fascinating!

I thought "D" (Deutsch) listings were the standard catalog for Schubert and "S" or "S/G" (Searle/Grove) for Liszt, but was surprised to learn that earlier in his career, Liszt did you opus numbers, but we rarely see these now--in fact this being designated as Op.54 doesn't even appear on this score. Guess I need to dig out my LIszt biographies for clarification on this.

Playing through these transcriptions with gusto was much fun until I encountered the octave glissando's on p.13, then OUCH! :D There certainly are some technical challenges to be met here.

Thanks for posting this, Alfred.

Thank you for feedback!

The opus number refers to:

Schubert Divertissement à la hongroise op. 54 for 4 hands

Thanks, Alfred!

This piece, "Divertissement a la hongroise" is Op.54 or D.818 and can be found here:

All this about Schubert opus numbers just when I had the Deutsch numbers in my head! It is quite a nice duet. I recorded the secondo part via MIDI and played the primo part with it on playback. Nice having a piano that can do that.

But Liszt turns this into quite a different animal.

Liking the XXL much better. Quite a remarkable drawing and in profile making it more unusual.
