Eulenspiegeleien Allerhand Variationen über ein kurzweiliges Thema op. 30
Next to the Elegien op. 42 his best piano work. Good ideas and excellent but never (too) complicated piano writing. Haas was a modest and deeply religious man, not a cosmopolitan but deeply associated with his native region "Schwaben" (Swabia). The music reflects this character and may be called a touch "bieder" (do not know the exact English term). Nevertheless a work suitable for the concert-hall! Karl NAWRATIL
Impromptu (Canon) from Drei Stücke op. 8
Ballade No. 3 op. 14,3His almost sceletal (even bordering the amateurish) piano writing often masks the fine emotional content of many of his works. Imagine the Ballade being a transcription of a Mendelssohn song, and you will know what I mean.

Thanks for these, Alfor. The Haas piece is interesting, especially the variations. I do like the Elegy better, though.

I enjoy all of your posts, especially new things like the Frey, I did not even know who he was. My school schedule keeps me very busy learning and analyzing music and reading, so i dont have time to look at many of these new scores at the piano. But I may pick up a few for my Junior recital next semester, if I do Ill upload a recording.

The Chuvash Lullaby in your selection is definitely NOT op24 no 1 which is labelled Chuvash Melody in the copy I have.
My rough worklist has op27 as 1930s Three Melodies (Georgian, Tartar, Armenian) for piano which matches your score's index (ordered as Georgian, Armenian, Chuvash), if one assumes that there is little difference between a Chuvash and a Tatar (Tartar) since both are Turkic peoples and their respective republics in Russia are next door neighbours although actually considered to be from different branches of the Turkic family of languages! Anyway, excellent stuff. Feinberg was simply, a genius.
