John Stainer was much more than just the composer of 'The Crucifixion'.
The beauty of the introduction to this little-known Jairus cantata was
intended to whet the appetite for the complete VS, which I'll scan and
upload to IMSLP next week, the demand for such works amongst nearly
all the pianists here (particularly from us supposedly unmusical English)
being incredibly small, and being totally out of fashion generally.
(My own fashion is always to be out of fashion!)

Because of the generally positive reaction to last week's Bellini La Somnambula
file, I thought it might be an idea to also upload his other 'S' opera arranged
for piano solo. There's probably a Ricordi edition hiding away somewhere,
but in the absence of that, this is my file of it instead (enlarged from the
bijou Sonzogno Edition).
Because of the enlargement and the poor print quality of the 137 year old
book, the scan quality isn't perfect by any means, but for me, that just
doesn't matter. It has age, character, and rarity. As a collector, that's what
I look for when investing in a score.

Yes, I agree with you. It's very easy to get carried away with producing
a near perfect quality scan. But what's the point, as long as it's readable?
Some of Elibron's facsimile music publications are by no means perfect,
but for me that actually adds to their character and their appeal.
Personally, I dislike typeset scores because they are 'surgically' clean.

Here's another piano score of a stage work, which I put on the old PP
under a quite different filename.
Unfortunately, very few of G&S's stage works were ever published in
piano score versions, yet old vocal score versions of most of them
positively abound.
