6. The first Noel, the angels did sing

Over to Tim for numbers 9 and 10 - mismatch between the number of letters in the clue and the number required in the answer!
Could "God rest ye merry, gentlemen" have been intended for number 9?

Oops - one or two slight hiccups, perhaps due to too much
Christmas spirit! Good job I included the disclaimer about
not being guaranteed error-free. :-)

Anyway, all the answers are correct, so well done both.
No.10 should be (4,4,7,2,4), not as stated, because I made
a ding dong on high of spelling 'merrily' correctly.

The original version of this quiz had 12 questions, one
for each of the 12 days of Christmas, but I deleted the
other two, as they were a bit too over the top innuendo-wise!

More nonsense coming up (SQL errors permitting) in the
near future, so watch this space.

Regards, Tim.

Anagrams of 6 composers are given below. They all had
something very specific in common. Can you identify them
and spot the link?

1. Jam bent inner bit (8,7)
2. Five in vain (6,4)
3. Rotund gloom (6,5)
4. Sulk - to disallow wit (6,11)
5. Ogre, yell 'God' (6,5)
6. Hint: involve kinkier hook in hack! (6,12,10).

Enjoy!

Hi Tim
Despite the best efforts of the SQL errors and a snails-pace working board it has only taken me two days to upload the answer.
1. Benjy Britten
2. Vivian Fine (no not Nanny Fine, she is something else... quite literally)
3. Morton Gould
4. Witold Lutoslawski
5. George Lloyd (my father knew George lloyd...or was it the other way round)
6. Tikhon Niko Khrennikov

the link is that by some strange coincidence their respective mothers and fathers all agreed that 1913 would be a good year to produce a composer or two.

best wishes
Brian (not born in 1913...and no sarky comments Rob!!)

Congrats Brian on successfully navigating to this page, and getting
everything crack on. Yet again, Leicester fails to beat Hull, as it were.
My hope is that the Proms organisers don't get too carried away with
BB next season. Somehow, I fear they will.
Btw, one puzzle I've not yet solved myself, that is how much smut
I can get away with!

A few months ago in this thread, I posted a short passage of text
supposedly about Thomas Dunhill et. al. which contained a dozen
sequences of letters, which, had they stood alone as words, would
have been removed pdq! Nobody noticed, so the joke failed, and
after two weeks I decided to remove it. The exercise was in part
inspired by James May, erstwhile editor of one of the car mags,
in part by captured British troops in the last war writing home,
and in part by the name of the town where Dunhill died.

Very similar indeed Tim, they all had the good sense to die in 1913 before they were called up for war work.
1. Hans Bronsart von Schellendorf
2. Felix Draeseke
3. Alfred Gaul
4. David Popper
5. Otto Reubke
6. Leander Schlegel

Tops marks again Barni! Methinks an Enigma machine type
method of scrambling the letters up a bit will be necessary
in future to add to the challenge.
Hype-weary? Nap! (5,3,4).
Regards,
I'm hotty! (7).
