This opening gambit was itself a clue to the theme, by dint
of the word 'we'.
It was a quiz where I had to tread very carefully indeed,
and the choice of 'victims' was highly significant.
Various anagrams presented themselves, but it
seemed politic to opt for the most anodyne available.

Gaddafi, I assume, pronounced the English way.

Correct! Apart from the main notes spelling 'Gaddaf', the eye represents 'i'.
The filename is his initials.
Why didn't he go quietly, like the Tunisian guy?
By not doing so, like Saddam, his demise was an absolute 'sirte'.

Something for the weekend perhaps (as my barber used to say)?
Here are some clues. Associate a particular number with each one.
Add them up and take the square root of the total. Divide the answer
by the number of clues. What links the resulting number with fate?
Ludwig's C major variations and how fast they rotate on the TT.
Elvira M and Harriett S's hubby's empirical figure.
GM's biggy and FM's big chamber piece player count.
Alban's PS opus and Bob's acronymic opener.
WAM's starling song and a quarter of PIT's famous overture.
Claude's only opus and Fred's first studies.
Father of the symphony's penultimate set of foursomes and trombones.
A silent Cage and Männer from heaven.
Happy Slaves driver's allotted span and Mick Jagger's poor mental health.
GM's biggy again and a JSB fugue for lute.
