Re: Piano Transcriptions for two hands

Post by Alex »

Having taken a sojourn to China for the Summer with my fiance, I have some free time to devote to transcription efforts again. I am a huge fan of Ferdinand Ries' symphonies and due to some recent IMSLP score postings I was able to transcribe the Scherzo from the 5th Symphony. I present this treat to the lovers of transcriptions and Beethoven-knockoff's (kidding). I will also be finishing the second Clementi symphony fairly soon.
I would like to thank Caprotti for his recent rare posts, Timtin for Handel, FW190 for Tchaik, and rqsrqs for his fantastic transcription. The more the merrier!

Here it is! The final Clementi transcription finished. I would love to do the 4 big ones but they are still copyrighted. Enjoy!

Presumably the edition was copyright because editorial work was done on the full scores in the editions you have (Pietro Spada perhaps?). Depending on just how MUCH work was done the scores may or may not still be in copyright and producing a reduction might not infringe that copyright (ie if all the notes really are Clementi's). Complicated but still very questionable.

I agree, since yours would be a 2H made presumably on Clementi's original notation. So you don't infringe any copyright !

Thanks everyone.
The issue with the Pietro Spada editions is that they are partly reconstructed by him. It's very possible that some of the movements are purely Clementi, but Spada definitely did some work above simple editorial additions in most of the music. I would love to contact him and ask for his permission to transcribe them, but I don't know how to reach him.

Yes, I did wonder if that was the case which is why I carefully chose the words I did. The material is certainly copyright and will remain so well after Maestro Spada's demise. I bet 'Caprotti' knows how to contact him. I certainly think you should. And keep up the good work Alex, it is very much appreciated.
