Timtin wrote:10 anagrammed composers, all from the same country.
But which country, and who are the composers?
Hint:- No.5 is probably the best known.
Hi Tim
Sorry for not replying earlier; like Rob, I've been horribly busy.
Anyway, your hint wasn't strictly necessary, because number 5 jumped out almost immediately. So, to get the ball rolling, it's Conlon Nancarrow.
I'l try to tackle some of the others later.

Absolutely correct, of course, Jo. What I love about anagrams is that one
just knows they're correct, having got them.
Btw, if any of our resident wordsmiths feels like dipping into the General
Discussion section, you might like to sample the delights of trying to
cook up some mnemonics, in particular, ones for the 13 planets of our
solar system.

Tim, these are stinkers. Even a quick trawl through Google hasn't helped much. I can contribute No 4 = Carlos Jimenez Mabarak (surname sounds Arabic). As for the rest...

Correct with No4, Jo. For the others, this link might help:-

Jacques Drillon, the French musicologist, author, transcriber, and musical conservative
(even more conservative than me, which is really saying something!) recently posed this question:-
Which composers wrote two piano concertos?
Obvious answers would include Brahms and Chopin.
But how many others can you name?

I'm assuming, by the examples given, the question means "only" two.
Shostakovitch immediately came to mind for me (though some could argue the first concerto was for Piano and Trumpet).
Then Einar Englund would be the other one I know of, without having to do some research.

Those with a question mark: I am not 100% certain.
And I assume this is solo piano with orchestra or sufficient instruments to qualify for the genre implied.
There might be some dispute with some modern composers who wrote in this genre without specifying such a title.

Thank you all for the information so far. I know Thal's knowledge of piano concertos is bigger
than Wembley Stadium, and Rob's knowledge of modern music is bigger than the O2 Arena,
so all I can do is stand back and admire!
Here are 5 more possible candidates:-
Glass? (not transparently clear (pun intended))
Liszt? (disregarding No3 (rightly or wrongly))
Mendelssohn? (disregarding the PC with strings only (rightly or wrongly))
Schumann? (if you include his Sonata in F minor = 'Concerto without orchestra')
Weber (no ifs or buts).
Now, over to the experts again .....
