Hi friends

Reading a book on piano I found references to a certain Karl Klindworth, who studied with Liszt, who lived in London 14 years to go then to Russia in 1868 as professor of the Moscow Conservatory. There he published a famous piano reductions of the operas of Wagner and also launched a series of critical editions of the music of Chopin. Does anyone know tell me how to get them?

Thank you very much

Klindworth was one of the most famous arrangers of Wagner operas and wrote also a lot of 2H after works by Berlioz,Ciaikovskij,Glinka, Mozart (Requiem) ...
you should find some of them at IMLSP

Having checked my collection of Wagner operas in 2H, this is what I have:-

Rienzi, Hollander, Tannhauser (all arr. Doebber ed. Furstner)
Walkure, Rheingold, Gotterdammerung, Parsifal (all arr. Kleinmichel ed. Schott)
Lohengrin, Tristan (both arr. Schneider ed. Breitkopf & Hartel)
Siegfried, Meistersinger (both arr. Singer ed. Breitkopf & Hartel).

Strangely, nothing arranged by Klindworth. To be honest, and correct me if
I'm wrong (usually am), I thought he was more of an editor than an arranger.

They seem to be all vocal scores, not 2H arrangements.

Yes, you are right - it is the usual "Klavierauszug". But it would be quite unusual to call the author ("arranger") of a vocal score merely "editor"!!

As a keen collector of 2H opera scores, I've been caught out by the word 'Klavierauszug'
more than once, and ended up paying a small fortune for a vocal score I didn't want.

Yes, "Klavierauszug" in most cases means "vocal score" - one example where the English language is more exact!!
