I finally got around to discovering this amazing posting. Thanks to Frank, Malcolm & Duirton for this truly amazing piece.mballan wrote:A little extra as I'm out for the next two evenings, so not sure if I'll be able to post anything.
Frank kindly shared a manuscript copy of Lourie's Op 40 a few months back, and Duirton has kindly typeset this into a very clean and readable copy. So special thanks to Duirton for your efforts in creating this file...and especially sharing with us

Penultimate Sibley.......Aleksandr Sergeyevich Taneyev. Born 1850 St Petersburg, died 1918 same. A relative of the more famously known Sergei Taneyev; his mother was also a pupil of Henselt, and his father held important positions in the court and was a minor composer of several works. Studied composition with Reichel in Dresden, and later with Rimsky-Korsakov in St Petersburg. He also received advice from his friends, Balakirev, Glinka and Mussorgsky. He worked primarily in the Russian civil service and from 1900 headed the song commission of the Russian Geographic Society. He also collected Russian songs and was involved in the publication of "Fifty Songs of the Russian People" [harmonized by Lyadov and eight songs were used by him for his orchestral work Eight Russian Folk Songs]. Works include two operas, three symphonies, orchestra suites, overture, a ballade for orchestra, Reverie for violin & orchestra, three quartets, Violin sonata, romances, choral music and piano pieces.
His works tend to be fairly difficult to locate, so these are somewhat of a rarity.

Thanks to Malcolm & Parag for this rare posting. I especially like the Bluette. I am more familiar with the father, who wrote an excellent book on counterpoint.

Hello at all,
thanks for all the compliments about the my edition of the Lourié Op.40!
Since you liked my edition, I've decided to post also the MIDI files to all five pieces, so it's possible for all also listen the Op.40.
Only one thing; the MIDI files are not perfect (especially in the 5th piece), but however are reliable at the 90%.

Matvey Akimovich Gozenpud (1903-1961). I have previously posted a number of works by Gosenpud, but this got missed because it was faulty - I have now managed to complete the work.
