his original first name is "Friedrich". According to an austrian music dictionary born Vienna July 5th 1835, died New York May 14th 1889.
According to Walter Niemann Brandeis was a pupil of the Wiener Akademie and studied with Fischhof, Czerny and Rufinatscha.

Yes, I suppose it does look a bit like Genghis.....but actually Ivan the Terrible [well, thought I needed a Russian picture this time around, and Ivan suits my temperament] !!!!!!!

Ernst Pauer - born 1826 in Vienna, died 1905 in Jugenheim near Darmstdt. Austrian pianist, pupil of Dirzka until 1839 then studied with W.A. Mozart Jr (piano) and Sechter (composition) from 1839-44 and then with Lachner in Munich from 1845-47. From 1847-1851 was director of the Mainz Music Society then moved and settled in London in 1851. Professor at Royal Academy of Music from 1859-64, and then in 1867 took up a position as Principal professor at the National Training School, followed by a move in 1883 to the Royal College of Music. Retired to Jugenheim in 1896.
Wrote a number of technical works on piano playing, transcriptions of works by Beethoven, Schubert and Mendelssohn, plus many piano studies and pieces, a symphony in C minor and chamber music.

We have seen various scores by his son Max posted on this site - here are two works by his father Ernst:
