anyone who perhaps missed it first time round, but who might
be interested and can't access it otherwise.

Whenever I decide to give the Moonlight Sonata a dusting down,
I always begin the last movement now with the first 4 bars of
Pauer's Study No.29. It produces a terrific effect on the music.
Highly recommended, if a little sacrilegious, but who cares!
(Actually, Beethoven might well have approved of this addition
- something that in business terms might be described as
'adding value to the product'.)

That reminds me of Czerny's preludizing along with many other composers of the day. Those sorts of introductions must have been quite common. Think of Hummel's preludes set or Ferdinand Ries'. I'm sure it is a lot of fun to surprise an audience with that study, despite how sacrilegious it might be to current performance practices. My wife told me that she may want to use these for teaching Beethoven sonatas to her students, we will see! First I need to print and play through them.

Wouldn't it be a pleasant change if the next CD box set of Beethoven piano
sonatas to be produced included a few Pauer-like tweaks? Sometimes I think
that these works are treated far too reverentially.
Btw, sorry about the not-great scan quality. It was done in the days before
they told me about Irfanview. One day, I might completely rescan the score.

The scan on IMSLP is VERY BAD, FW's scans are perfect, so for me it is a great job to rescan this important edition. Please continue..
