It's a pity that so an important collection doesn't exist (complete) in pdf. Jean-seb : could you provide the missing pages, i.e what you have of :

- italians (1-15)
- german (all the volume 3)
- the french that will not be included in the next scans

I found out that some of the germans are available in Vienna (ONB)

Thank you !

PS I 'm reworking the two old set of yours, could I post those here?

Caprotti, thanks very much for the ONB information - I was able to locate a few more French masters there as well. Interestingly, I found them by Pianiste Chanteur rather than Bizet. I think that later I will try searching under the original composer's name, since that seems to be how they are cataloged.

Has anyone had experience with requesting copies from ONB? I've considered this before but didn't know how responsive they were - they have many things I would like to request.

Hi GJF323,

The ONB in Vienna is very responsive to copy requests. Your contact there would be Dr. Andrea Harrandt. Usually a large batch of music (say ca. 500-800 pgs) takes them about 1-2 months at the most. They will ship you hard copies, not pdfs. I don't remember the cost per page, but compared with other libaries it is quite reasonable. They accept credit card payment as well. I've dealt with them from the USA and have never had any problems.

All Best,

Frank

I can confirm Frank infos, the prices are very good. I found Bizet references searching for ' Pianiste Chanteur', it's easier.

btw, I have just played the numbers I have for a couple of hours. Being rather expert in belcanto and pianistic arrangements of that kind of music I was very surprised by Bizet's ability to transpose the melody into the different registers without requesting too much from the pianist. The transcription of 'Mi manca la voce' from Rossini Moise is better than Thalberg's in this sense.

What I've enjoyed about these transcriptions - whether it is due to the transcription or just me - is that my touch suddenly becomes more legato and it really seems like my hands are wanting to sing these pieces. I really can't come up with better praise than that for these transcriptions.

Thanks to the marvelous way that the ONB has the pieces cataloged, I could quickly determine that after I order the series 1 French masters I don't have, we will have 1-25 of these. I'm at work and can't check, but hopefully that will complete at least the 1st series of the French set. I suppose series 2 is numbered 26-50, based on the holdings of ONB which shows no pieces below 25 or over 50.

The ONB will save a lot of scanning work - once the copies arrive, all I need to do is convert the A3 or A4 size copies to 8.5x11 (assuming we can't specify) and use the sheet feed attachment on my multipurpose printer. Hopefully minimal clean-up after that.

I think we're closing in on getting a lot of this impressive work into PDF.

Regarding the French Masters, I assume that the person to whom I have recently offered the volume will eventually scan them and share them. I have not copied them before sending the book. So let us wait and hope !
I have indeed a few numbers from the Italian Masters and a few numbers from the German Masters. To me, the latter are the less interesting because they already exist in many other transcriptions.
Anyway, I'll try to scan them in the following weeks with my camera.

And yes, you are welcome to rework my old scan from the Italian Masters and share it here.

Hi everybody,

I am the person mentioned by Jean-Seb in the previous post. He was so kind and generous that he sent me the book with Bizet transcriptions and I did my best to scan them, but the score is much bigger than A4 format and my A3 scanner still does not work, because there are no drivers for Mustek A3 scanner for the Windows 7. So any technical help is more then welcome!! Scanner is MUSTEK ScanExpress A3 USB.

With kind regards,

The official Mustek website has the drivers for
XP, Vista 32/64, and Win7 32/64.
Follow the links for 'Support' then 'Office Usage',
then choose the appropriate model.
If the drivers for your model don't appear in the list,
try the Vista 32 or 64 (as appropriate) drivers instead.

Dear Tim,

I have already installed this driver a long time ago. But when I connect the scanner to the USB port, the Win 7 says that the unkown device was connected. It is impossible and stupid, because I can see the driver in the index of installed applications.. so I really do not know, what to do.

Anyway, thanks for help.

Maybe your pc will only drive 64bit applications,
and the scanner will only work with 32bit pc.
Perhaps you could test the scanner connected
to an older pc running XP.
