Oops (again). Sorry about that. I've re-checked all the others and they're all okay.
As a substitute, please replace it with:-

2. Fried lazing.

(I was getting side-tracked by issues such as the interestingness of today's date
(20/10/2010), the appropriateness of 'Yellow Race' as an anagram of the composer
who wrote 'A Chinese Suite', and the great Sven-Goran Eriksson's taste in music.)

...and
3. Thomas Arne
4. Orlando Gibbons
6. Carl Nielsen
7. Igor Stravinsky

thanks for a bonus anagram, I will see what i can do with it.
2. Gerald Finzi
cheers
Brian
PS Does Sven-Goran Eriksson have a taste in music?

So far so good - only no.8 is left to Czech out! (Perhaps Jo, our resident
chemist, could process the last bit of the prescription.)

Prior to the 2002 World Cup, Naxos, in their infinite wisdom, got
Sven to compile a 3CD set of his favourite music. I believe that it
sold well in Sweden, but it's unclear whether or not many of England's
football hooligans became converted to the joys of listening to Elgar,
Delius et al. The full list of pieces can be found here:-

OK I know it is Bedrich Smetana which provides an anagram of his alter egos Diane T. Chambers and Bert S. Chaminade, he occasionally wrote under the name Chimene Bastard but it had connotations he couldn't handle so changed it to Mara ben Scheidt, but even had problems with that so decided to stick to the original.

Damn! Brian beat me to this batch - I saw them only last night. I'll try to be quicker on the draw next time.

This is yet another nationality based cryptic quiz.
It's shorter than usual, but then it is only a small country.

1. Ford varies when lady varies (5,7,6)
2. Hot and loud tin study (4,9)
3. Joins leaden design (6,5)
4. Mail with mail as sorted (7,7)
5. Lover on viol fiddled (4,7).

Determined not to be pipped at the post today by Brian, I offer the following three:

2: Alun Hoddinott
3: Daniel Jones
4: William Mathias
