No info about Jose Maria...

The first six notes of the melody of this charming Nocturno are
identical with Schumann's Schlummerlied.
The final recapitulation of the first theme is imitating mandolins.

A different Gonzalez tonite! Nothing like winding down the day with a nice nocturne. Amazing observation about the Schumann, Alfred. I've not played Schumann's Op.124 for decades and rushed to the score to see for myself.

Most interesting in the entire piece is the mandolin imitation that you point out--you don't see that done this well very often. Ummmm. Scarlatti comes to mind.....

Thank you, Alfred.

More from Dolores.

Although neither the favourite of alfor nor of huge-grown rabbits with full beard, this
innocent salon piece might find some friends on pianophilia:

Another Gonzalez! I am hesitant to assume that Dolores is a female name, since I called it wrong last time. This is a nice pastoral piece that has been very carefully notated. I found a small interpretation problem that occasionally shows up and gets me distracted. On P.2 the right hand phrasing is clearly indicated (and with excellent fingering), but it gets obscured by the pedaling indication. As usual, I'm over thinking such minor details, but as a composer I get concerned about such things, but in the 19th century I am well aware of these things are frequently ignored.

It is a very nice piece and I've enjoyed playing through it.

Thank you yet again, dear Alfred

Alfred, Gonzales Deprit is clearly the best of the three pieces these you posted tonite, but IMHO Dolores seems relegated to the salon music category. I'm going oing back to play Gonzalez del Valle lovely Rapsodia Espanola which ranks as one of your great finds.

Thank you, Alfred.
