Thank you guys for the great discussion of Hungarian composers and the PDF files. Have a question for you. Does anyone have access to Heller's Dix Pensees Fugitives (Op. 30)? The IMSLP has it (or at least 4 of the 10), but it is in such poor condition one cannot really use it. Carol

I found 2, 3, 7 and 8 at the Library of Congress website and put them on my website. They are somewhat better than the scans you mention.

Jakab Gyula Major [Jules J Major....real name was Mayer] (1858 - 1925). Hungarian pianist, conductor and composer. Studied with Volkmann, and graduated from Budapest Conservatoire in 1882. He took up various teaching positions in Hungarian schools.
Wrote Two Piano Sonatas, the one I've posted is Op 68, the earlier one in A major is Op 35. He also wrote a Concert Symphonique Op 12 for Piano & Orchestra [one to hunt down Thal], plus 5 symphonies, 3 operas, violin concerto, cello concerto, quartets and much piano music.

A little known Hungarian composer -
Arpad Szendy (1863-1922). Pianist and composer. Studied at the Budapest Conservatoire and at the Academy of Music; then became a student of Liszt in 1881. In 1890 was appointed to the faculty of the Academy of Music in Budapest. Gained a good reputation as a piano teacher in Hungary. He published numerous editions of piano classic - and wrote an opera, string quartet, songs and many piano pieces.
I have posted his Op 16 Trois Pieces Antiques.

Dear friends,
as for Hungarian Library I have never seen anything larger than this
http://fulltext.lib.unideb.hu/chamber/bin/notes.cgi
It is mostly Violin and Piano music, but at the end of this list you can find some Piano solo music.
Here is the index page for image download

I hope some of you can find this site useful...
Regards to all

Dear Biljana,
thanks for this link.
Despite the clumsy download it's really very useful.
