Dear Alfred,

Thank you so much for dedicating this wonderful posting to me, along with the kind words!! :D It is YOU who continually enrich our lives with new musical discoveries, and I will forever be in your debt. I so look forward to each day's posting on Pianophilia, wondering what new and different direction you may be taking us. You continue to provide so much joy through the sharing of music.

I absolutely love all the Herzogenberg scores! While I haven't been able to get to the piano with the Op. 37 yet (hand/mind coordination problem, hopefully temporary!), my "sight-reading" of this score reveals a very capricious nature to this group. This is particularly evident in the Impromptu, which is a wonderful piece in and of itself. Once again we find in Herzogenberg a composer whose music compliments the performer by lying so well under the fingers!
Just absolutely beautiful and wholly pianistic.

With warm regards, as always,

Frank

Dear Alfred,

Thank you very much indeed for the op.37. A joyful set of pieces for all of us to enjoy. I am particularly enamored with the 2n'd piece, the Scherzo, which is huge fun to play. The composer appears to be shaking off outside influences and coming into his own style.

To Frank: Wishing you a speedy recovery on your coordination problem.

Emil heißt er, doch nicht Bohnke.
Vielmehr heißt er hinten Kronke.

Thanks for the charming little Kronke triffles, Alfred. Nice to have a little light music now and then.

P.S.: My English poetry is about like your German poetry :D

Thanks for posting!

To fleubis, with compliments:

Posted as an example of the piano style of "the other Schönberg":

Josef Matthias HAUER
op. 25 Klavierstücke mit Überschriften nach Worten von Friedrich Hölderlin (original first edition)
Hauer Klavierstücke op.25.pdf
Unduly neglected!!! Each piece preceded by a wonderfully poetic Hölderlin quotation, these miniatures are equally poetic late-romantic (early expressionistic) pieces, totally different from Schönberg.
No dynamics, no tempo indications!

Dear Alfor,
Thank you for the HAUER pieces. Not being a fan of serialism (the name of Schoenberg ends to make me shudder a bit), the 12 tone aspects of these pieces are presented in an easy to play style of simple rhythms and straightforward harmonies which allow the vision of expressionism and quasi-impressionism to come through without the very complex rhythms and unpianistic figurations Schoenberg would tend to employ. So what we have is a clear statement of a harmonic world which is rarely heard and something I can enjoy as a composer as well as a pianist. The lack of performance indications present tremendous opportunities for interpretation which are not usually seen and just playing through even one of the in several tempos and dynamics ..... well I love the possibilities.

Edvard MORITZ (see my previous postings)
Vier Klavierstücke op. 1
Moritz 4 Klavierstücke op.1.pdf
Some good ideas but not completely convincing.

Karussell (children's pieces)
Moritz Karussell.pdf
As a whole far more convincing than op. 1.

Dear Alfred, thank you for the Moritz pieces. I liked most of the Burlesque in the 4 Klavierstucke, but the most interesting by far, as as you say, is the childrens pieces, Karussell
