Speaking of Horowitz (yet again!).....There is a stunning recording of Horowitz performing "Islamey" that is begging to be transcribed....I fell off my piano bench when I heard it....the recording is called "Vladimir Horowitz At Carnegie Hall - The Private Collection - Schumann, Chopin, Liszt, Balakirev".

Would bet all Horowitz aficionados have enjoyed all the various Carmen Variations and (thankfully!) excellent transcriptions and how Horowitz developed the piece over the years.

And speaking of non-Horowitz transcriptions.....I can't help but put in a plug for M. Pletnev's outstanding transcriptions of the Nutcracker & The Sleeping Beauty--I just acquired these and they are not paraphrases, but very precise and highly effective transcriptions. Now if I could just play then as well as Pletnev does.... :D

As a great VH admirer, I must confess that many of the recently issued cds of the "private recordings" are really detestable : the top of bad taste is Liszt "S.Francesco di Paola", but even in Islamey bad taste is always round the corner..

Does anyone have a nice piano transcription of Saint-Saens' Mon coeur s'ouvre a ta voix? I mean something substantial, and not just a reduction. Thanks in advance.

Best,
Koon

I'm entirely certain what the difference is between a 2H transcription and a 2H reduction.
