Let's have a short break from Gernsheim!

The following piece has been scanned by the Brahms-Institut Luebeck, Germany. I have not yet found out, how to download from their website and how to remove the watermarks. (Parag, please help!)

Alfor, the Hessen Fantasiestuck is another great find and deliciously understated material holds interest throughout. Thanks for posting this.

This is really great Alfor!! Thank you so much for the Mazurkas.

The great pedagogue LESCHETITZKY greats us two fluidly pianistic treats. These mazurka's are wonderful and it is too bad more pianists don't get around to great material like this--there are quite a few other good mazurkas around such as these.

As a side note, I learned to actually dance the mazurka when in Poland last fall, so it is not one of these ancient forgotten dances. But you can't dance to Chopin or even these mazurkas, but that doesn't alter our pianistic pleasure.

In's Stammbuch op. 26 Gernsheim at his best! Seven wonderful delicate poetic pieces, (mainly) Schumann influenced.

Dear Alfred,

Thank you so much for posting Gernsheim Op. 26 "In's Stammbuch!" This suite of pieces is simply lovely; seemingly quite wistful, and yet a different side of this absolutely fascinating composer. Your comment re. the Schumannesque quality of the pieces is very well taken, several reminding me of the wistfulness of "Kinderscenen."

I have yet to encounter a Gernsheim piano piece which I thought was anything less than top calibre material. It is a tragedy that he is only known for his chamber works today...although that fact at least should be enough to make people aware of his genius.

As always, I am greatly indebted for your continued posting of Gernsheim, as well as other favorite Romantic composers!!
