Friedrich GERNSHEIM
Fantasie (F-moll.) op. 81
Gernsheim Fantasie op.81.pdf
Improvisatory throughout. Not completely convincing.

Great to see this - I had only known the name of the composer as a friend of Szymanowski.

Thanks.

I do not know of any recording of a piano solo work of Gernsheim. There are some good recordings of chamber music works and Caprotti has posted a recording of the piano concerto, though.

John Kersey has recorded 5 piano solo works of Gernsheim, Opp.18, 22, 61, 69, and 76b.

Also, Bas Verheijen has recorded his unknown piano solo Préludes.

4. Jubilate

On a grand scale. - May we ask Frank to alarm us, if he detects masterpieces
among the many Gernsheim scores to follow? ;)

Dear Alfred,

Although far from being an authority on Gernsheim, I'll certainly be glad to sound-off an alarm on any pieces which I think are particularly good....but must confess first that I am a great fan of this composer's work, so am likely to dearly appreciate any and all the postings! I enjoyed the "Fantasie" and the Tone Poems look very inviting (to me at least). I do heartily agree that Gernsheim's chamber music far exceeds the quality of the piano music I've seen up to this point. I'll do my best to be objective, but it's difficult when you have a "soft spot" for a given composer, plus these scores are so rare it's a privilege even to see them!

All Best,

Frank :D

Thanks Alfor for the very substantial and interesting GERNSHEIM Tondichtung. I really enjoy the lovely Romance with the gorgeous cadenza. In all, a very lovely set of pieces.

Friedrich GERNSHEIM
Drei Clavierstücke
1. Auf der Piazetta op. 68
2. Weihe der Nacht op. 69 (has been posted previously by a certain "alfor")
3. Walzer op. 70
Gernsheim Clavierstücke op.68 & 70.pdf
G. surely may be called a 19th century classicist. Medtner would have approved of these pieces, which are masterly composed but imho lack a bit of colour.
