Re: Alfor's Rarities
Lovely, Alfred! The second volume of Friedman is a very worthy companion to the first volume and with a little more harmonic interest, too.
Speaking of Etudes, I've just been wasting some time playing through (attempting!) the Moreaux Op.63 Etudes and came upon what has got to be one of the most ridiculous etudes ever written - No.24. And thus making me all the more appreciative of fine etudes like the Friedman studies.

To console fleubis who is weary of music that is purely intellectually constructed...
Ignaz FRIEDMAN
Etuden op. 63 Heft 4 Other than Gieseking Friedman was not known for improvising "light music" or Jazz.
So it was surprising for me that he could write such a "hot" Cake-Walk!

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Alfred, I think you have me pegged correctly!
As per purely intellectual music, 12 tone constructs come to mind and there are precious few that i like let alone play. (But will happily admit to being a big fan of Barber's Piano Sonata--which I play frequently.) So there must be significant musical artistry attached to any harmonic "system" to attract my musical interest. So I happily wallow in the vast array of late & post Romantic music--much of which YOU, Alfred have introduced to me.
Thank you for completing the Friedman Op.63 Etudes and I can now ditch my old hard-to-read copies for these beautiful new scans.

You are welcome, tobyjj!
alternative scan:
Manuel INFANTE
EL VITO (GRACIA) Variations sur un thème populaire et Danse originale pour Piano

the piece can be played to good effect.

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Many years ago I had the opportunity to ask Alicia de Laroccha why she did not play Infante and she said "there is much better Spanish music to play." That said, I have enjoyed playing Infante in spite of it's inferiority to the better known Spanish masters.

Re: Alfor's Rarities
Merry blessed CHRISTMAS to all pianophilians!
...I would share Madame Larrocha's judgement, but would also claim that Infante is good enough to be posted in this forum...
alternative scan:
Ferruccio BUSONI
Sonatina in Diem Nativitatis MCMXVII (original edition with nice "gold-plated" cover) Exhibits B.'s somewhat intellectual and even a bit chaste personality. (In a letter to his wife Gerda he bitterly complained about inappropriate criticism and said: "You know that I do have emotions!")
