Yes, Alfred. ILLIG certainly seems to be a really unknown composer. Such interesting and complex textures in a late romantic piece - a lot going on in the short space of a few measures but are we saved from being overwhelmed by the slow tempos. I thoroughly enjoyed the lushness of these pieces.

Certainly the Illig looks to be very interesting, but as with most of the music posted on PP, I wonder what it will sound like when I try playing it! :? :D

The unknown composer:

Max KROHN (German composer, 1886-1988)
Variationen über eine althebräische Melodie op. 25
Krohn Variationen op.25.pdf
Some good ideas, but not completely convincing.

Agreed, Alfor on the Krohn. A nice siciliano theme but the variations are not worked out well enough, but with some charm.

Vincent D'INDY
Suite en parties
pour Flute obligée, Violon, Alto, Violoncello et Harpe op. 91
Transcription pour Piano à 2 mains par Gustave Samzeuilh
d'Indy Suite op.91.pdf
D'I. may occasionally be overly sophisticated, but imho he is never scholarly (which he has been accused of).

Posted as an example of the piano style of this French composer, who is far better known as a conductor:

Jean MARTINON
Sonatine No. 3 op. 22 (original edition!)
Martinon Sonatine #3 op.22.pdf
Recommended! Sort of post-Roussel style.
