2. Argento & 7.Porter are correct.
11. is wrong! Why would Harrison work?

Harrison seems to work quite well on the basis that to haress (or 'harry')
someone is to mistreat them as with a whipping-boy. Also the 'boy' part
implies 'son', hence harry-son. Also the letter count is correct, and Harrison
is the name of an American composer.

Aha. But too far off. It's easier than that. Whip is really the only important word here. Think Italian. The 'boy' merely provides the final vowel.

I need to have another think about that one.
In the meantime, what about the following:-
13. Leavitt (13 = unlucky number, to be avoided!)
16. Templeton
Btw, a useful link for this quiz is:-

Correct!
No 13 'Thirteen' (7) is actally EXTREMELY easy!

btw, the link to a list of American composers is very incomplete - the 'whipping-boy' is NOT there, even though born in NYC.

Correct. Well done Malc.

Sorry, no.
For No 17, the best I can say is that John Wayne are the forenames of this famous celebrity, and his surname is only one character different from a very cerebral American composer.

For No. 13 THIRTEEN - some knowledge of Italian will solve this! Terribly easy.
