As far as I know, these are within the archives of the Royal Academy of Music, but I don't have any opportunities to see those scores myself.
I've been trying to get these for 15 years! The York Bowen society has never responded to my queries, but Danny Driver (who recorded them), wrote to me in 2019:

"The first three Bowen Sonatas are unpublished - copies of the manuscript are available from the Royal Academy of Music library once you have secured permission from the Bowen Estate. This was long been administered by Bunkers Solicitors (Brighton), now Rix & Kay. To my knowledge that’s still the place to write, though I have no contact there any more." ( www.rixandkay.co.uk )

We need someone who can surmount the two hurdles of estate and library access. They are not available for loan, so maybe they have digitised versions or will allow copies to be made onsite.

I am happy to offer my services in type-setting (at least as a first draft).

This is some very valuable information, thank you very much!

I am surprised by how extensive the catalogue of RAM is! They appear to possess most of Bowen‘s works, especially the ones that were assumed to be lost. I also found sketches of a „second piano sonata in F minor“ as well as some collections of miscellaneous pieces and sketches.

Hi WalterNiemann

I have the first Sonata ( i think) in physical form. I might just need some time to scan it. Happy to share it then :)
It is awfully difficult to play though..

Francis Edward Bache - Piano Concerto in G minor (ms full color)

Post by promusician »

I have got the full color reproduction of this unpublished Bache concerto. Clearly readable in all parts. Anyone interested in full score typesetting can message me directly. I am currently working on some Potter concertos and will be doing this as my next project.

Having recently got very interested in John Stanley's Organ Voluntaries Opp.5, 6 & 7, I'd really like to hear them recorded, but being played on the harpsichord. Originally, it seems that they were intended for either instrument, but I'm really struggling to find any recordings in that form. Maybe having 'Organ' in the works' titles is part of the problem. If anyone can help, it would be much appreciated, thank you.
