Re: Music from the British Isles
Borowski is having a temporary moment in the spotlight, as his violin and piano piece 'Adoration' is on the current ABRSM Grade 7 violin syllabus, in which capacity I have accompanied it several times!mballan wrote:Felix Borowski (1872 - 1956) Born Burton-in-Kendal, England: died Chicago, U.S.A. After studying in London and at the Cologne Conservatory, Borowski moved to the United States and took a position at the Chicago Musical College as a violin, composition and history teacher. He later moved on to Northwestern University where he was special lecturer in history, form and musicology. He built the music collection at the Newberry Library, edited the program books of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and served as critic for several American newspapers, including the Chicago Sun.
I have posted his excellent Sonata Russe [thank you Mr P].

Re: Music from the British Isles
Phillip Sear has played several of Rosebloom's pieces... he mentions 1889 - 1967 as his dates. Perhaps he can give a reference. Curious that I should mention Phillip's channel on two threads today!

Re: Music from the British Isles
Anybody wants the full score of John Irelands 2 Symphonic Studies? (Fuga - Toccata). Arranged by Geoffrey Bush. The musical Material is taken from unpublished sections of Irelands score for the film THE OVERLANDERS.
Anybody tell me if interested, so i scan it.

All I know Malcolm is here from the Dictionary of Organs and Organists pub. G.A.Mate & Son 1921:mballan wrote:Tony...yes please to the Ireland works.

Malcolm
Arthur Cyril Baynham F.R.C.O.,F.T.C.L.,L.R.A.M.
Address 251 Oxford Street Swansea,
Born at Swansea, Trained at T.C.L.
Deputy-Organist at Swansea Parish Church 1904-1908
Private organist to the late Earl of Carysfort,
Organist and Choirmaster at St. Saviours Parish Church, Arklow 1909-1918
Organist and Choirmaster Swansea Parish Church since 1919
From this one can extrapolate that he was born around 1882-4, did no war service in the 1st world war, didn't stray far from his Welsh roots, was well trained as an organist and as was common in those days all-round musicianship, the requirements of FRCO were extremely severe and would frighten any normal instrumentalist, the standard and requirements were awesome.
If I find any more I will post it.
regards
Brian
