Glad you like the Zum 5 Uhr Tee, Jean-Seb - there are some more to post now.

We have already had Band 2, 3, 4, 8 & 14 - I think.

N.B. To save me having to look it up in academic volumes, could someone give me a quick and instructive refresher course on the meaning of the "weird" clefs on pages 6 & 8 ? - Thanks

Hello Tobyjj.
Those signs indicate where to go back to, and from where you go back from.
I have not encountered them before, but if you look at the words, the first two words of verse two
are shown at the end of verse one, so you go back to the sign where ever it is shown previously,
taking the second line of lyrics.

Yes, thanks for the enlightenment on the clef signs - I suppose for that purpose any old squiggle would suffice. I wonder if these have an official name ? (The ones on pages 6 & 8 I mean, not Codas generally).

They are called repeat signs.
I am uploading a piece here by Confrey which shows the more modern version of them.
The double line with two dots.

Hmm, yes - thanks - What I really meant was, do they have a technical name for print setters - e.g many diacritical symbols have individual technical names - cedillas, umlauts, carats etc. slashes are "virgules" and so on, - it's the sort of esoteric trivia that I like to accumulate. But thanks anyway.

I have a dictionary / encyclopaedia of musical notation somewhere and will try to answer my own question.

Hi Toby,
As has been said here already it functions simply as a repeat sign but if you examine it carefully it is a very elaborate version of the "segno" a place to return to not always at the beginning, sometimes mid-measure. Usually the sign is placed above the barline or spot where you should restart. it looks here as if the editor has decided to use the segno sign instead of the usual double-bar line and dots.
I will be interested to see if you come up with a name for this particular sign, but I think segno would also do the trick if you can't.
